Features

Located one house from the end of a country lane, this 4 bedroom, 2 bath home is sited on a private hillside, sun-drenched lot capturing the essence of relaxed California living.

Built in 1947, this light filled bungalow-style home is set up off the road with ideal privacy, accessed through a sandstone paved front patio area.  Beautifullly updated, this home offers approximately 2,467 sq. ft of cheerfully bright interiors.

On the main level the light-filled living room/dining area are a perfect combination. The living room, with a bay window and fireplace, has a formal entry and additional seating alcove. The updated sky-lit kitchen is adjacent to the dining area with easy indoor/outdoor access that opens nearly level out onto a paved trellis-covered patio area; the perfect setting for al-fresco meals.

The main level also includes 2 bedrooms and updated full bath with access to a view deck which is a perfect vantage point to enjoy a morning coffee or just a nice place to relax in the morning sun. With both interior access, and a separate entrance, the lower level includes 2 bedrooms and a full bath, all the fixings for a kitchen, a living room/family room with a fireplace, and laundry all serving a multitude of options for either guests, live-in au-pair, ideal home office suite or a second unit possibility.

Railroad tie steps in the back yard lead up through terraced perennial garden areas.  A detached garden shed is ideal for extra storage.

It is easy to imagine a life here in this neighborhood called Old San Rafael, where back in the day open fields of orchards were all around. Now it’s a thriving area of commerce and shopping and easy access to commuting.

There is an air of privacy here where birdsong and the music of sweet breezes fills the air of this charm-filled home making this an ideal place to call home.

Neighborhood

The county seat of Marin, San Rafael is large, diverse, eclectic, and historic. That history stretches from California's beginnings, with the 1817 founding of Mission San Rafael on the old El Camino Real, to the construction of the eye-popping Marin Civic Center in the 1960s. Designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Civic Center was completed in 1962 and is so futuristic that it pops up in science-fiction films.

San Rafael still looks to the future thanks to a vibrant downtown redevelopment effort. The focal point of downtown is the Smith Rafael Film Center, which features a state–of-the-art multiplex cinema that screens independent and foreign films.  Cuisine is eclectic: within a few blocks of 4th Street diners can find sushi, Indian, Thai, Italian, Mexican, and Puerto Rican food. Thursday afternoons in the spring and summer find 4th Street hosting a farmers market, which features live music.
The neighborhoods of San Rafael are equally distinctive. From the sought-after midcentury Eichler homes of Terra Linda to the Victorians that surround Dominican College and the custom homes of Lucas Valley, San Rafael provides diversity of price and style.

It's also easy to get away from it all in San Rafael. Nearby China Camp State Park is a jewel by the bay, offering: a kid-friendly, walk-in campground for tents only; a shallow, protected swimming beach; and biking and running trails.
